The Legend of Azzurrina
Do You know how a legend is born?Based on a true story.
The trend is roughly that of a common childhood game: the wireless phone.
Do you remember? 10 children are put side by side, a phrase is whispered into the ear of the first close and so on, it will not come to the last true to the original, but undergoing an arbitrary modification.
The same thing happened (and still happens to the mouth of the visitors to the fortress) with the story of Guendalina. To avoid, therefore, conclusions confused, we tell you his story.
Daughter of one Ugolinuccio or Uguccione, feudal lord of Montebello in 1375, was the protagonist of a sad piece of news.
It was June 21 of that distant year when, in the snowfield of the old fortress, the girl disappeared and was never seen again.
This in short is its history, passed down orally for about three centuries, was enriched with elements of fantasy. But because it was talked about so much? The reason we learn from a Miscellaneous accounts of the lower Val Marecchia, the result of a seventeenth-century taste for fabulae popular. The pen of a collector of stories of the seventeenth century stopped so, on paper, the long flight of that, now, he was already a legend: Azzurrina.
“… Her eyes were the color of the sky and the light hair had blue reflections …”
Here, then, Guendalina gets her nickname and her suggestion of a 'real' phenomenon, which, when viewed more closely, it turns out the result of a tint coming evil, because the baby was born, in fact, with white hair albino.
The difference of the other is something that he often frightens man, today as in the past. The suspect then taken to the extreme, leads sometimes to believe in extreme measures. Delete the different and with it what it represents, can be seen as a solution.
It was then, to defend (or hide) the daughter that her parents dyed hair, but white albino does not retain the color, the pigment reacts turning blue. This explains the 'strange' case and the name bound to it. Still, the allure that still exerts on many visitors to the Castle, the producers of television programs, the merely curious, is placed arcane.
What drives so many people to walk through the winding streets of the ancient cliff, in order to reach the fortress of Mons Belli? To find out, we take our seventeenth-century manuscript and continue to read:
“… And it is said that, at the end of the summer solstice of every five years, a sound from the underground tunnel face is still being heard.”
We are in 1990, the castle is open to the Museum by just one year, however, the legend is already in the public domain. There are those who blindly support group immediately, who challenges, many fear it, others laugh, but everyone is talking about. Then, on June 21 of that year, engineers interested in these episodes make the first recordings. The equipment is sophisticated. All frequencies are recorded. In the study proceeds listening: thunder, a roar of violent rain, then ... a sound.
Year 1995. Also on June 21. New recordings. Same sound.
Luster year 2000. Again on June 21. Again, the summer solstice and, again, the sound that repeats itself.
Year 2005 ... and the legend continues to amaze scholars and researchers, add images in the following years and the research continues ...
For tourists visiting the fortress are made to listen to all the recordings. The reactions still remain the most diverse, if not even contradictory. For some it seems a crying child, others a laugh, many say they feel an item to distinguish a word, many others say they do not feel neither more nor less than wind and rain storm.
Freeing the interpretation, we invite you to the castle, so that you can form you a personal opinion on the matter.
